Teen Bedroom Makeover!

Teen Bedroom Makeover!

My daughter Sophie starts high school next week. Just typing that is so incredibly bizarre. The passage of time is crazy like that. She has been anxiously awaiting this exact moment, the moment high school begins, for a very long time. I will now have two teenagers in high school and two fourth-graders.  It seems like yesterday I had four kids under the age of seven…but honestly I don’t miss those days too much :).

^^^Framed watercolor print is from the Target Project 62 line; it is such a beautiful print and goes perfectly with the color scheme we already had for the room.

We decided that in preparation for what already looks like a very full school year for Sophie (high school classes, varsity cross country, band, plus TEEN social life) we would get her room straightened out so that she felt organized and in charge. There is something about a good room and closet purge that feels SO good. We disassembled her old loft bed (thank you to 15-year old Simon for that!), took bags and bags of clothes and other stuff to Goodwill and purchased a few new furniture and decor pieces. The most eagerly anticipated item we purchased was a new bed from Wayfair.

^^^The “La Petite Patina” nightstand is from my friend’s old store; she closed it about six months ago and I asked for this table since my kids had admired it in the shop. Sophie loves that this is her nightstand.

This bed has an upholstered headboard, footboard and rails as well as a nailhead finish along the whole headboard. We spent a long time searching online for just the right bed and once we came upon the Cassandra upholstered bed, I immediately purchased it. Wayfair was great about communicating shipping info; it actually arrived a little sooner than we expected which was great. It took me about an hour to assemble it but the instructions were clear and it was a simple process. The quality of the bed is fantastic and we both love that it’s a timeless look that will easily take her through high school.

^^^This is a cozy spot to land 🙂

The pink bedding is from Target’s Opalhouse line. It is REALLY soft ruched jersey and is pretty dreamy to sleep on. I wish that the line had a king size option! The sequin heart pillow is from about six months ago at our local TJ Maxx. The faux plant is also from Target’s Opalhouse line.

Sophie has a long Ikea desktop that functions as her desk for school work but also holds all of her makeup and nail supplies. We love this desktop because it is SO long and with the white glossy finish it always cleans up well.

I think we bought this tack board years ago from World Market. It has been a favorite place for Sophie to put her photos and memorabilia. The greenery in galvanized tins are from Ikea about a year ago.

^^^The white candle is Capri Blue from Anthropologie. It is my all time favorite candle scent and so naturally, Sophie loves it too :). She spent a chunk of her own money buying this candle and it brings her so much joy. She is totally my daughter!
^^^The pink bucket on the floor holds extra blankets and is from Target. The yellow nailhead chair is from several years ago at World Market.

^^^Mug from TJ Maxx.

Now full disclosure, a teen girls bedroom sometimes looks like a cyclone hit it, and this bedroom is no exception. There is always a laundry basket in the middle of the room full of stuff to be put away and hair paraphilia and shoes and charging cords. But for the most part, Sophie can only exist in a mess for so long before she goes crazy and super cleans the whole place. It is not uncommon to see her tear through the house with a garbage bag and can of disinfectant wipes ready to take action on the mess. We made sure that her room was picked up for these photos because we wanted to show her room at its very best. But real life is messy and this room is usually a littler messier than these photos show :).

^^^Plant love.

^^^Sophie printed this out and framed it herself about a year ago.

To me, Sophie is still that baby-faced little four-year-old with a baby lisp and huge blue eyes filled with JOY. Now she is a beautiful young woman, still filled with joy but clearly on her way to bigger and better things and that makes me a little nostalgic for her babyhood. This room is so representative of who she is and where she is in life right now. The pink femininity of it paired with checkered Vans and rose gold makeup brushes, candles, sparkles and soft blankets. This room is my girl all wrapped up into a cozy, warm place to land. It was so nice to take a little time and make this space work for her with all that is coming up.
