May was PACKED. Jam PACKED. I feel like every single May is like that though. Between birthdays (mine and Sebastian’s), end of school stuff, trips, work and Covid (again, yours truly), May screamed past us so fast we hardly had time to register dates and days. Seriously, it was a lot…but it was mostly fun. Except for the Covid part. That was stupid. So let’s get into it – here is May 2022!
First things first, my beautiful Sophie graduated from high school. She actually graduated, finishing all of her coursework, in December 2021 but had to wait until May to get her diploma and walk with her class. She decided in early 2021 that she wanted to be done with high school and busted her butt to get all of the necessary coursework done and apply for college before the end of last year. She was accepted to college before her classmates even had their applications in, was able to work full time at In and Out and get a jump on college savings and be done with high school life. It ended up being a great plan for her and we were so happy to celebrate her accomplishments. She is excited to attend Utah State University beginning in August and ALSO join the ROTC Air Force. Big things are in store for this amazing girl.
I celebrated Mothers Day with three of my four kids at home (missing Simon as always) and Sophie made me a cake! She told me it wasn’t Mothers Day without a cake and I now know that I raised her right.
We celebrated my 47th birthday in Southern California with my four best friends and an assortment of their kids/spouses and it was everything my heart needed. You can read all about our weeklong adventure here.
I got Covid (pretty sure for the second time but we will never know for sure). Me, Mckay and Carrie all came down with it right after our magical Stubbert Family Vacation So Cal trip. I’m vaccinated and boosted and it still knocked me out. First four days felt like a bad cold with some difficulty breathing (which was freaky) and a tight chest, then a cough that lingered for about two weeks and fatigue. I never had a fever or body aches. I did notice my sense of taste around sweet things was affected but only for about two weeks. My smell was off for a bit too. It felt like pool water up my nose and everything had a slight hand sanitizer scent for about a week. Covid is so weird. I isolated in our bedroom/bathroom and masked up if I walked through the house. I didn’t touch my kids for over a week and Sam slept in the guest room – I hated it. I’ve decided that I like to be alone but only for small amounts of time! The isolation and the cough were the worst part for me and I never want Covid again the end.
Our dear best friend/aunt/sister/second mother Taylor Piece came to stay for a few days prior to a conference she was attending in San Francisco and we considered kidnapping her permanently to live with us. We missed Chris and the kids but it was also fun just having Taylor all to ourselves. She is the amazing and once again, I do not know how I lucked out with the best friends.
Sophie went to Prom with some friends and looked gorgeous. She bought her dress in a shop in Florence, Italy and looked like a Hollywood star. Everyone looked great and she was happy to check off one more high school thing from her list (Prom was two weeks before graduation).
We headed out to Utah to celebrate Emma and Owen’s wedding and celebrated Sebastian’s 13th birthday along the way. It was a fun, jam packed week filled with our friends and family. It was especially sweet seeing Emma marry the love of her life. I’ve known her since she was seven and my heart was just so happy that day. It was perfect. First up, Seb’s birthday:
Seb also had a party at the local bowling alley back in California before we left for Utah with his buddies; it’s a good group of boys.
Next up, Emma and Owen’s wedding:
Simon continued working hard in Langata, an area of Nairobi, Kenya. We are typically able to chat with him over Facetime once a week and his calls are always one of the highlights of my week. He has been doing great.
And that sums up a really really busy, fun, packed, happy month. Lots of moving parts. It’s crazy having one kid in Kenya, another headed off to Utah soon for college and two rising eighth graders. Get us some celebratory cupcakes over here: Sam and I are killing it! Hahahahaha…no…but for real 🙂
Talk to me!
