Small Squares – May 2019

Small Squares – May 2019

I was in Sri Lanka for the first ten days of May which was AWESOME. The rest of May was a blur of end-of-the-schoolyear festivities/awards/parties as well as my two high schoolers studying hard for finals. Sadly the rain dried up by the end of May and our rainy season won’t pick back up until October at the earliest. I’m always so sad to see our rain go away; I miss East Coast summer rain storms, especially thunder storms. We celebrated Sebastian’s 10th birthday, played with the dog, enjoyed the flowers and settled back into being home. Here then are a few snaps from May 2019!

I can’t even express how incredibly delicious these were. I need to bribe my kid to make me these again…
Excuse me while I wipe away a tear. Love this so much.

This year my birthday fell on the same weekend as Mothers Day and my older two children gave me such thoughtful gifts (the younger two basically forgot. Oh well). Simon made me THE BEST salted chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever had and Sophie made me this beautiful framed art. Since most of my birthday celebrations were wrapped up in Sri Lanka, Sam and I opted for a simple dinner and a movie a few days after my actual birthday.

Two of my favorite people on the planet, Toni and Holly. Toni was in town for a hot minute so we all had breakfast together. Never enough time with these two together :).

A few days after I got home from Sri Lanka I was missing Indian influenced food so off to Chaat Cafe I went for some garlic naan, basmati rice and chicken tika masala. MMMMMMMM.
Could our valley be any more beautiful?
Sam picked out this sarong for Steve in Sigiriya, Sri Lanka. I truly have not seen someone look better in a sarong than Steve – they were made for each other!
Prints from Sri Lanka that we purchased in Galle Fort.
Sophie with Coach Anthony and Coach Brooks. We love these guys.

Sophie was honored as a scholar athlete. So proud of this one!

Great job ladies!
Varsity freshman!

These two finished track season on a great note and Sophie earned her Varsity letter as a freshman! We are so proud of these two. They work REALLY hard with their running/training and hard at school.

Neighborhood flowers that took my breath away. No filter either!

I spent some much needed time at the temple in Sacramento. Sometimes I really just need to escape all of the noise and chatter and problems and come to a place full of peace and inspiration. That is what the temple represents to me. We’ve got some dear friends going through really challenging stuff right now and it felt good to go and pray for them and what I can do to help.

We celebrated Sebastians 10th birthday. He had a good time. It has been a pretty challenging year with this one so it was beneficial to focus on the good of the day and hope for better things in this coming year. Fingers crossed.

I engaged in some self care and brought out the embroidery threads again. This time I am hard at work on the back of a jean jacket. It is coming along and I can honestly say that I love it!
Look at my girl with that stride! She looked fantastic out there!
Sophie and a bunch of her freshman friends played Powder Puff towards the end of May and it was SO much fun to watch her attack on the football field. Honestly, I had no idea she could be that fearless and aggressive!

Sam and I have been casually observing a few houses on the market in our area. If one is really awesome we will do something about it. This was one property we toured with the most fascinating backyard (with full barn) but the house needed waaaaaaay to much work. The casual search continues…

Repping my BFF Kelly Packard’s old TV show California Dreams.

That’s all for now!
