Small Squares – June 2022

Small Squares – June 2022

As I was typing the title to this I typed “June 20922” and honestly that felt pretty accurate. Doesn’t it seem like 100 years have passed between June 2020 and now? Is that just me? Or that 100 years have passed between May and June? Life feels both screaming fast and agonizingly slow and it has been this dichotomy since early 2020. Maybe this is the new timeline???

Anyway, here are a few pics for June 2022.

Simon continued to make us excited/happy/proud as he journeys’ through Kenya serving his mission. He has been out nearly a year and impresses us so much. He is incredible and it is a joy to watch him grow and mature and learn. Missions are the best.

Simon’s wonderful mission president.

Simon sent us the above pic showing an entire couch being transported on the back of a motorbike. We’ve seen stuff like this in other countries (I remember an air conditioning unit on the back of a motorcycle in I think the Dominican? And an whole family of five on a small motorbike) but a couch is a first.

Look at that smile!

Simon also went on his first big trail run in a LONG time with his outgoing mission president (an avid runner) and some other adventurous running missionaries. It was a dream come true for him to run at elevation in Kenya. Just incredible. This experience really reignited his love of running and thank goodness. He is such a talented runner. The chance to run in Kenya was something that will stay with him forever.

Happy Pride!

While we were in Utah Sophie and I went to the Pride Festival in Salt Lake City. It was joyous and wonderful. Here is what I wrote about that day on my Instagram: “I’m not sure I’ve ever felt more love and joy and inclusion than today at the Utah Pride Festival in Salt Lake City. I want you to know unequivocally that I am an ally, an advocate and a safe place. Always. And that isn’t just me; that is my family. Me. Sam. Simon. Sophie. Sadie. Sebastian. We are allies, advocates and a safe space. I am grateful for change and inclusion and open hearts and minds. Happy Pride.” It was a great day. Good job, Utah.

We hit “Maverick” while in Utah and you guys IT WAS SO GOOD. Like SOOOOO good. They did an amazing job with this. I was so stressed by the end that I picked all of my nail polish off and was convinced death was imminent for our favorite movie star. We loved it. 10/10.

Love these cute girls

Finally rounding out June, Sadie went to girls camp with our church for the first time. She missed 2020 because of Covid and them missed last year because we were out of town on a family vacation so THIS year we made sure all of the stars aligned and she got to go. She had a great time and slept for about 12 hours straight when she got home. My thing with kids when they come home from camp is I don’t let them get further than the laundry room. We dump the entire backpack of clothing/bedding/unknown into the washer, they strip most of their clothes and shoes, everything gets started in the washer and then I march them the shower. Then to bed. Works like a charm every time 🙂
