Small Squares – April 2019

Small Squares – April 2019

April 2019 is the month Sam and I will remember as the one we were barely home. No joke. We were in Zions for the 100 miler for five days, and then Sri Lanka for 16 days and Sam had another business trip to Arizona thrown in there, plus many track meets and invitationals for our older two along with Easter and wow, this was a steamroller of a month. All good things! Just so compressed into 30 days; I don’t think we will plan a month quite like this again. Here’s a roundup of a few small squares from the past month; Enjoy!

First and foremost, we had Sam’s amazing Zions Ultra 100 race. See that whole post here.

Have I talked about how my puppy eats carrots and they are her all time favorite thing ever? She also loves cucumbers, apples (without the core and seeds of course), corn and spinach. My little veggie dog 🙂
Puppy in a box for your viewing pleasure 🙂
Our friend Ron was deployed to Afghanistan for six months; we had a little going away celebration for him.
We finally started to get break from the rain in April. Sitting out on the patio has been pretty dreamy.
I did a little Anthro shopping…always a good day when that happens.
Sophie went to her high school’s “Rodchella” (it’s like Cochella) 🙂

Easter Sunday was lovely. Here we are right after church. And yes, I am in heels but Sadie is in flats and is clearly going to be taller than me in a year.

We had Easter dinner at the Clawsons with the Bennions and it was a perfect afternoon. We had a full taco bar dinner (genius), egg decorating, egg hunt for all humans under the age of 18, Sam and I both took big naps in the living room, we had a beautiful discussion on the atonement and how we can (and should!) use it every day, Simon and Hunter left on a hike, Sophie and Liz had a photo shoot and the little kids played. Later in the evening after Sam took the littles home, Ruth and I got our fiber arts going with some nachos and more desserts in the background.

Egg decorating in earnest with Liz, Sophie and Howard
People READY for an egg hunt!
I love this photo that Howard took of all of us at dinner. I wish he was in it too; it really was a perfect afternoon.
Ruth sets a gorgeous table for any event. She is so talented. I learn a ton from her.

I love that little pocket of posies; Liz took this of Sophie on Easter
Sam took this of me sleeping. I had created some kind of a sandwich-biodome situation for myself. GUYS, I was in the HEIGHT of coziness! The Clawson couch is magical (I’ve slept here before).

Sophie PR’d her mile to a 5:57 at the Halden Invitational while we were in Zions and then PR’d her 2 mile to a 13:27. She killed it Halden weekend!

My dad is a professor at the Mason School of Business at the College of William and Mary and is retiring this year. One of his students took this photo and I love it. These students are so lucky to have him as their professor; he is beloved at the business school and the college.
Simon PR’d his mile to a 4:30 at Halden.
Simon also ran at Sacramento Meet of Champions and ran the 2 mile. It wasn’t his fastest time in the 2 mile (9:45 that day) but he learned a lot and had a great attitude. He spent a fair amount of time with his coaches and as one of them put it, they “spoke some truth into his life”! I’m so thankful for these fantastic coaches and people around Simon and Sophie as they shape their training. It takes a big village.
We kept losing Will so this is the “safety circle” the teens put him in!
I packed and prepared to travel to Sri Lanka for 16 days! It was quite a bit of work getting all of our travel arrangements set not only for us to travel but for our kids who are with my sister in law back at home. We are so thankful for her and so thankful for the gift of travel.
